The New Rich & the DEAL Framework

Who Are the New Rich?

Ferriss draws a sharp line between two types of people: the deferrers and the New Rich. Deferrers work hard for decades, saving everything for a retirement that may never come — or arrives too late to enjoy. The New Rich, by contrast, refuse to postpone living. They design their work around the life they want right now, not someday.

Being 'new rich' isn't about having a massive bank balance. It's about owning your time and mobility. A person earning $50,000 a year with total schedule freedom and the ability to work from anywhere may be living far more richly than a stressed executive pulling in $500,000 but chained to a desk.

The central shift is from accumulating money as the goal to treating time and freedom as the real currency. Ferriss argues that most people have never questioned whether the traditional 9-to-5 path is actually the best route — they simply inherited it.

"What you do is infinitely more important than how you do it."
