The Lens You See Through

Every person views the world through a "paradigm" — a mental map or assumption about how things work. Covey's central argument is that lasting change begins not with behaviour tricks or quick fixes, but with a fundamental shift in how you see yourself and the world. If your map is wrong, no amount of hard driving will get you to the right destination.

Principles are the natural laws that govern human effectiveness — things like honesty, integrity, fairness, and growth. Unlike attitudes or feelings, principles don't change. Covey's thesis is simple: align your life with timeless principles and your effectiveness becomes sustainable. Fight against them and you eventually fail, no matter how clever your tactics.

The way we see the problem IS the problem.
